Finding Flow

Nature is a great source of inspiration. These paintings evolved one after the other, like a river. Flowing movement through wind and water- this is the feeling I am expressing in the series. Collectively, I call them “Finding Flow”.

In simple strokes lies the power to express — a beauty that captivated me in the art of both China and Japan. My visit to Japan in 2024 introduced me to the beauty of simplicity and purity, in the natural landscape as well as how each and every object is created like a work of art.

Working with Chinese ink and watercolour on rice paper has taught me how to navigate uncertainty — the way pigment flows, merges and sometimes defies control like life itself.

I start with a line or a form on the pristine white paper and this leads me to another and another. The process is organic and flows in a natural way, without the mind starting to identify and label parts.

The crushed paper creates many subtle nuances and tones, building up the mood.
Drawing with black ink creates the structure. The colours and paper collage build the emotions on that, and the interplay between them gives life to the work - a dialogue between control and spontaneity, structure and feeling, revealing layers of thought and memory.
