Navavarna Series
These are nine paintings representing the nine enclosures of the Sri Yantra.
The Sri Yantra is an ancient symbol of sacred geometry. It unfolds like a quiet pulse of the universe- a constellation of interlocking triangles with the luminous bindu (point) at the centre representing the source, point of creation and dissolution.
The union of divine feminine and masculine energies is represented through the harmonious interplay of 4 upward (masculine) triangles and 5 downward triangles (feminine) and 43 smaller triangles symbolizing a specific aspect of the universe and the human psyche.
Surrounding the triangles are two lotus rings-
The inner ring with 8 petals representing the unfolding of creation
The outer ring with 16 petals representing sensory experiences and the manifest world.
The square enclosure surrounding the circles has 4 gates. This symbolizes the material world and the 4 directions.
The Sri Yantra symbolizes the harmony between dynamic energy (Shakti) and stillness (Shiva). It is the sacred diagrammatic form of Goddess Lalita Tripura Sundari. It is not just a symbol, but meditating on it is an inward journey.
